Eclipse Perspectives

I’ve been using Eclipse as my primary IDE for several years now. In that time, I’ve never “gotten” (or had to get), in any kind of sophisticated way, the concept of “perspectives”. Or maybe it’s the implementation I don’t get. Does it matter which one I choose?

From what I can tell, a perspective is nothing more than a collection of views and I can show or hide any view I want in any perspective I want. If that’s correct then it would really matter unless I’m frequently moving between collections of views (I’m not).

Is there something more to it?

You seem correct. Reading Eclipse definition it seems the key is “initial” set and layouts of views. http://tinyurl.com/6gq8ua
